A Warm Welcome From Everyone At Dunston Silver Band
A Sad Farewell
We are saddened to announce the recent death of Mattie Bell, one of life's true gentlemen.
Mattie helped revive the band in the 1980's along with Tommy Lee and played baritone for many years with the band. He always took pleasure in the bands achievements and especially recent successes.
He will be sadly missed by everyone involved with the band, both past and present members. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Matty's family.
About Us
Dunston Silver Band is based at the Dunston Community Centre, near Gateshead in North East England. We are guided by Musical Director Sue Murrill and are currently preparing for the Wansbeck contest and a summer programme of concerts (see ENGAGEMENTS page). The Band is really very happy indeed to have come 3rd in the Third Section North of England Brass Band Championships in March and are thoroughly enjoying the challenges of being in the third section for the first time in it's history!
Dunston Silver Band works hard and has fun. We try to play to a high standard and make sure that we enjoy ourselves at the same time. We have a varied programme, ranging from traditional brass band arrangements to more modern pop and film tunes - a current 'favourite' is the recent 3rd section regionals test piece 'Dark Side of the Moon' by Paul Lovatt-Cooper! We practise on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. We also try to organise regular social nights, including 10 pin bowling, evening meals and pub tours!
If you would like to join us, or would like more information on joining us please see the VACANCIES page.
